    The problem is that during the intricate process of silicon chip design, there is no method to immutably track design activities, preventing a comprehensive understanding of the origins of all design aspects.



    Lockular's Provenance suite has been effectively deployed in the niche sector of Silicon Chip Design for German company Codasip, a pioneer in customised RISC-V design tools.

    This implementation incorporates the two core components from the Lockular Provenance suite: Provenance Tracking Filesystem and Workflow Actor Management, combined into Theia.Cloud to provide the cloud IDE, and complemented with the Lockular NFT Marketplace supporting sharing and tracking of design outputs.

    This integration guarantees unalterable traceability (provenance) over three essential elements of the design process: the foundational chip designs, the utilisation of design outputs (such as SDK's), and the evolving configuration of teams working together on a design.



    Provenance Tracking Filesystem ensures every aspect of the designs produced within the Theia.Cloud IDE are continuously monitored and documented on a dedicated blockchain by Lockular's Provenance Tracking filesystem. This blockchain-based monitoring system provides a permanent record of all design actions, modifications, and accesses, significantly enhancing the security and traceability of the design process. This detailed monitoring is essential for protecting intellectual property and maintaining the integrity of the design process in the highly competitive and secretive chip design sector. Provenance records and reports are a significant component in fulfilling the requirement of the US ITAR standard used across the US defense sector.



    Workflow Actor Management is critical in shaping and overseeing the cooperative relationships among organisations involved in the chip design and manufacturing processes. Using Smart contract technology, WAM sets strict protocols that dictate how these organisations interact, collaborate, and exchange design information. This organised approach ensures a high level of precision and compliance throughout the collaborative efforts. WAM ensures provenance records pertaining to the structure of the collaborative teams are tracked and maintained at all times ensuring full historic knowledge of those involved in a chip or part chip design.



    Theia.Cloud is used to offer chip designers a cloud-based Integrated Development Environment (IDE) powered by Microsoft Visual Studio Code, dynamically loaded with Codasip's chip design toolchain and their bespoke vscode extensions. The cloud setup is securely isolated, supported by the Lockular Provenance Tracking Filesystem, which ensures comprehensive tracking and security of all activities and design data within the environment. Access to this platform is tightly controlled by WAM based smart contracts that reflect Codasip's design team configuration, ensuring that only authorised personnel can access and contribute to designs, and ensuring team structure is immutably tracked and recorded over time.



    NFT Marketplace is utilised to mint design outputs or intellectual property. Design outputs often take the form of part designs known as IP Blocks. The NFT marketplace facilitates rigorously controlled design sharing with immutable provenance tracking of the shared objects. In Codasip's case, this enables the sharing of common chip IP block definitions amongst teams within the partner network controlled by WAM based smart contracts. IP Blocks form the basis of a larger single chip design.



    Benefits The integration of Lockular's Provenance suite with Codasip's chip design tool chain has seamlessly provided a secure, cloud-based IDE that enhances the security and integrity of the design process. This has fostered improved collaboration and compliance, leading to greater productivity and innovation afforded by Codasip's chip design capability. Codasip has named this integration Secure Studio in the Cloud (SSitC) and is collaborating with Lockular to advance Provenance Supply Chain for RISC-V design services.

    The problem is that there is no indisputable method to validate carbon credit claims, which would demonstrate the progression from telemetry capture through to the algorithms that generate a claim.



    The two primary elements of Lockular's Provenance suite, the Provenance Tracking Filesystem and Workflow Actor Management (WAM), were deployed to securely gather, document, and analyse telemetry data from industrial boilers. This application supported the carbon savings claims of Sabien PLC, a UK-based manufacturer of energy-saving IoT devices. This use case effectively incorporates these key components from the Lockular Provenance suite.

    The Provenance Tracking Filesystem is installed on the IoT device to directly collect time-series telemetry data rom industrial boilers. This filesystem, which is native to blockchain and equipped with an NFS adapter, securely fragments and transmits the data to multiple cloud silos, adhering to a stringent blockchain-controlled protocol. Regular analyses of the telemetry data are conducted under blockchain supervision, enabling the assessment of carbon savings on a daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly basis.

    Workflow Actor Management operates the smart contract that administers the role-based access control (RBAC). This system governs access for IoT devices, the analytical bots, and Sabien clients (humans), all managed by WAM. Provenance reports can be generated at any time for each device, detailing the participants and activities involved in the data lifecycle, ensuring that carbon savings claims are accurately recorded without duplication.

    The solution delivered the following advantages: It ensured full transparency and traceability of detected carbon savings, which were immutably recorded and used in subsequent calculations for carbon credit claims. Additionally, the calculation steps were recorded on the blockchain.

    An explorer dashboard that slices and dices carbon savings by installation and site is provided for human feedback. Again access is tracked.

    The business case for this use case is currently being developed in partnership with a company that approached Lockular with significant challenges related to the pharmaceutical supply chain. This partner will exclusively market the solution globally, with ongoing support from Lockular.

    Elements of Lockular's Provenance suite will be deployed to tackle vulnerabilities in the pharmaceutical supply chain. This involves developing a domain-specific smart contract that governs the operations of Lockular's Workflow Actor Management system. Rather than storing sensitive data on the blockchain, it will be kept within Lockular's Provenance tracking filesystem, with metadata linked to the unique, auditable transactions generated by the platform's smart contracts.

    Supply Chain Tracking and Compliance Throughout the supply chain, the assembly of packages and pallets of medicines is meticulously tracked at each stage. Each transaction in the product lifecycle is tracked on-chain in an immutable record. This tracking continues until the final delivery to the patient.

    Goal The implementation of Lockular's Provenance suite will provide a secure, transparent, and compliant environment for the manufacturing and distribution of medicinal products. This enhances the security and integrity of the pharmaceutical supply chain, leading to increased trust and safety in pharmaceutical distribution.

    The solution begins at the manufacturing stage where each the fabric that is used in the product (e.g. handbag) is treated with SmartWater, a unique identifier that marks the material of the handbag with a DNA like marker, albeit more robust than DNA. This identifier is linked to an NFT, establishing the handbag's initial provenance record. Here's the outline of the supply chain flow:

    1. 1. Manufacture: Each handbag is sprayed with SmartWater at the point of manufacture, providing a unique identifier that is associated with an NFT to create a provenance record.

    2. 2. Initial Purchase: Upon purchase, the NFT is transferred to the buyer, updating the ownership in the provenance record.

    3. 3. Resale Process:

    1. - The seller sends the handbag to the luxury curation service provider.

    2. - The service provider verifies the handbag's authenticity by checking the SmartWater mark.

    3. - The handbag's condition is assessed.

    4. - The provenance record is updated, and the handbag is dispatched to the new owner as per the updated record.

    For legacy handbags [pre-SmartWater] the app allows handbags to be sent in for service and the authenticity assessed with the option of retrospective SmartWater based provenance registration.

    Mobile App Integration: The mobile app serves as a platform for transactions, where users can buy, sell, or request restoration of handbags. It integrates a Polkadot.js wallet, enabling seamless transfers of the NFT associated with each handbag. This ensures that every transaction is recorded and the handbag's provenance is maintained and accessible.

    Benefits: This use case leverages Lockular's Provenance suite to provide a secure, transparent, and reliable system for tracking the lifecycle of luxury handbags. By ensuring the authenticity and condition of each handbag through a detailed provenance record, the system not only enhances consumer trust but also supports the luxury market in maintaining the value and integrity of high-end products.
